So we decided it was time to move across the country and the first question was, how does one do that? The first thing that comes to mind is of course wagons, but I never was good at fording rivers and I can't even think of where to get me some oxen :(
So Wagon is out of the picture, but maybe a modern twist? The Uhaul near our apartment says you can rent a truck for $20 a day in town, so it must be a reasonable mark up for crossing state lines. Its a 3 day drive from Phoenix to New York City so you know, maybe instead of $20 a day lets say $100 for the trip or even $100 a day? No, it is $1600 before insurance, mileage and gas! Now its suddenly 25x as expensive for the same vehicle! But hey maybe the in town move is a deal that they lose money on what ever. We will keep this in mind cause the going rate is the going rate.
So we spend some time shopping around. We try PODS but find that its $4000 or so plus delivery fees! Suddenly its starting to make sense when the NY kids would show up to the dorms and buy all new stuff. Luckily Sandra's mom works at UHaul and knew about their new Ubox program. Its like a tiny PODS that is half the price! for $1500 we can send everything we own across the country and store it if necessary!

Ya, seriously everyone, Pods is pretty ridiculous! Just to get a quote they make you put down a credit card and they scheduled your first payment. Just when you're getting the initial quote!! So then I had to call again to cancel it. It's insanely expensive and not at all worth the price. For that price I would at least expect someone to do the packing and unpacking for me! Ubox > Pods! ;)
